You see, if we truly have saving faith... And that is a gift of God. It is nothing that we generate out of our own soul. It has to come as a gift of God. But if we have truly been given saving faith, then it means that we have become a new creature. That is, we have received our brand new resurrected soul. Now in our brand new resurrected soul we never want to sin again. It means that even though we have a body that still has not been saved and still lusts after sin, nevertheless there is a very dynamic, a very big influence in our personality which gives us the determination, "I do not want to sin." Now what does it mean not to sin? It means to do the will of God, to live in a way that pleases God. And when I do anything that pleases God, that is a good work. Therefore, because I have saving faith, the evidence will be that I do good works. Or, because I have become saved, which is a result of the saving faith that God has given me, therefore I will do good works. That is my new nature, that I want to do the will of God. |
