For patients with a CMPD-related increase of leukocytes (e.g. PV) a combination of hydroxyurea and Thromboreductin® may be used because hydroxyurea lowers the leukocyte count and anagrelide prevents due to its combined thromboreductive and antiagregatory effects the venous complications. Over the last few years, investigations have revealed the importance of the JAK2V617F mutation in patients with chronic myeloproliferative disorders. JAK2-positivity shortens patients’ lifespan and increases the likelihood for transformation to polycythemia vera (5). JAK2-positive ET patients show higher hemoglobin levels, hematocrit and white blood cell counts than JAK2-negative patients, whereas their platelet counts are lower (6).
